Phaudom Villagers Organize Passing on the Gifts Ceremony
November 25 in Mai Village was not like other ordinary days when villagers wake up early and go to work in the farm. This was a special day because people from seven villages are helping each other to organize a “Passing on the Gifts ceremony,” the first ever for villagers in Pha-ou-dom district of Laos PDR. Department of Livestock Donates 12 Buffaloes to Chiang Dao Villagers
Thailand’s Department of Livestock has donated 12 buffaloes to villagers in Kongpakping village, Chiang Dao district where Heifer Thailand is implementing the Sustainable Buffalo Production for Self-Sufficiency in Northern Thailand (S-Buff) project and the Livelihood Improvement Project for Highlanders (LIPH). This donation came because the Department officials trusted that the villagers have the potential to raise quality buffaloes. Read more.
   
Third World Charity Dinner for Heifer Thailand
On May 22, a charity dinner was organized by grade 10 students of the Nakornpayap International School (NIS) in Chiang Mai. This activity is part of the school’s curriculum in their World Cultures class. Read more.
   
Gender Equity Improvement in Hmong Society
In many Asian societies, males have been the dominant family member for many generations. With globalization and expanding educational opportunities, this tradition is changing, as women are able to speak out more. In Thailand’s Hmong society, men are the family leaders and are allowed to have many wives, while Hmong women are kept at home and are not regarded as well as their husbands. When couples are divorced, women must live alone; they cannot return to their original families nor are they allowed to live with their husbands’ families. As a result, many women live with difficulties and unhappy married lives, which can lead to many arguments within families. Read more.

Heifer Thailand organized an orientation for new project partners from Northeastern Thailand and Laos PDR. on December 9 and 10, followed by an Accounting Training on December 11 and 12. Read more.
   
Tsunami Victims Rehabilitation Project
On December 26, 2004 a tsunami struck 6 southern provinces of Thailand, causing 5,395 deaths, 8,457 injuries and 2,817 people went missing. There were many casualties left behind after the devastation. In 2005, Heifer Project International (Thailand), in cooperation with Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) and Credit Union League of Thailand (CULT), started the Tsunami Victims Rehabilitation Project in 11 villages in Krabi, Pang-nga and Ranong Provinces. The main purpose is to restore the livelihood of 357 tsunami affected families and ensure sustainability in post-tsunami rehabilitation activities Read more.
